In times of uncertainty, Pinoy Youth Dreamers gives its share in fighting COVID-19 pandemic

Every battle inside the hardcourt becomes more challenging whenever we go to overtime periods. The more we extend, the more it gets challenging physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Despite these, however, giving up will never be an option to earn victory. Moments like these toughen your character and test your will to win.

As is a hard fought game, we have been challenged due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and our character has continuously been tested. We have gone through overtime periods as the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) continues to extend. Whether it will be downgraded to a rather relaxed General Community Quarantine (GCQ), the damage has already been done by this unseen enemy. All of us have suffered, some experienced worse, and many succumbed to the coronavirus including our health workers.

Despite the struggles that we've been through and we're still going through, it's truly heartwarming that there's still a lot of people who keep on showing compassion to others, especially to our modern day heroes - our brave frontliners. These are small wins for us. That even in this current situation of our country, they do not let every single day pass without having their fair share of contribution to ease the problem. One of them are the people behind the youth-developing organization Pinoy Youth Dreamers (PYD), which caters help to our frontliners through their project called PYD Cares - Meals Sharing.

Since the early days of the community quarantine, PYD initiated a step to support our new generation heroes, which includes the doctors, nurses, medical staff, police officers, soldiers, and checkpoint personnel, by providing them meals and relief goods. And to continuously support our frontliners, donations are provided by private individuals, friends, family and different organizations.

This off-court advocacy of PYD started as a family mission of its founder Coach Beaujing Acot, who is also the head coach of the Makati Super Crunch team in the Chooks-to-Go Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL). Helping him in this cause are his lovely wife Bliss, as well as his sons Baileys and Baffy to complete his quartet. Baileys is the courtside reporter of the National University in UAAP Season 82, while Baffy is a member of LSGH's Kundirana. Before this global spread of the virus, PYD has already been known for developing the skills, values, and right attitude of young athletes by conducting training and youth camps across the country.

However, even before the ECQ, Coach Beaujing was never a stranger to helping, so it wasn't really hard to get him going this time. “On the second week of the lockdown, I had the calling to be more active while in quarantine by reaching out to frontliners. We started on our own and was surprised on the outpour of help and contributions," he said. "We prepare meals daily to send out to hospitals and frontliners in the checkpoints and barangays. It has become a part of our quarantine routine and we enjoy doing it."

Coach Beaujing also expressed his gratitude towards the people who, as much as him, never gets tired in supporting his campaign and assured them that this is his continuous motivation in helping our frontliners as the COVID-19 virus remains threatening.

"The fulfillment of being able to share and to give is priceless. It’s our small share in paying it forward and giving back. God has given us the inspiration and the energy to commit on this endeavor. Seeing my sons dedicate their time to it is also very heartwarming," Coach Acot expressed and added,"(We are) Very grateful for the support from PYD family, basketball world, and friends all over. They are the reason we are able to sustain the meals-sharing and relief goods-giving. Each donation goes a long way!"

As PYD continues to deliver its task, Coach Beaujing asked everyone to do its part in resolving the pandemic so we could gradually get back to our normal lives.

"Stay home and let’s do our share to the sacrifices made by our frontliners. Let us stay positive and be hopeful. God is teaching us a lesson and He will never leave our side. God will always provide❣ #pydproud #pydcares #pydfamily #payitforward," as he concluded his statement.

In this time of uncertainty, let’s look at the positive effect of this community quarantine - that there are still many who are willing to lend a helping hand, most especially to those in needs. The normal days we had may not get back the soonest time, but through our unity, we will win this battle for sure. Let’s all heal as one.
