Bien Villamayor and JP Tadeo powered IBM to a hard-fought 97-94 win against Southern Cross and took a better position in the Corporate Invitational Intermediate Division standings with 3-2 record.

Providing a strong start for IBM, the duo of Villamayor and Tadeo also became reliable in the crucial stage as they hit key baskets to overcome Southern Cross' late rally.

Wynald Sultan brought the trailing Southern Cross back to striking distance, but missed his game-tying three-point attempt as his team finished the eliminations with 3-3 slate.

Villamayor shone with 30 points, including three triples, while Tadeo made 14 points and six boards. Mark Malong and Lawrence Nunez helped as well with 16 and 11 points respectively.

Villamayor and Tadeo got the IBM offense going smoothly in the early stages, making a 10-4 run to start the game. Sultan and Ramos helped Southern Cross bounce back, but IBM was resilient in finishing the first quarter on positive note as they pulled off a 9-4 rally to get a one-point lead, 25-24.

Jason Santos took over for Southern Cross as he propelled for 12 huge points in the second frame. Unfortunately, his effort was not enough as IBM stayed on top at the half, 49-44.

Keeping their aggressiveness on both ends, IBM racked up buckets in the third quarter and reached their highest lead at 13 in the 5:21 mark, 67-54. Santos kept his fiery offense for Southern Cross, but they still trailed by nine heading to the last period, 79-70.

As Santos exited due to fouling out, Sultan shouldered the fightback of Southern Cross as he delivered 11 points to bring his team to within four. On the other hand, Villamayor drilled crucial attempts from the charity stripe while Tadeo completed a fastbreak inside the two-minute mark to make it a two-possession game, 97-92.

Southern Cross had the chance to send it to overtime, but Sultan missed his last shot.
Santos, who fouled out in the fourth, put up 30 points, Sultan gathered 22, Ruperto Ramos Jr. added 13, and Jheyar Marcelo contributed 12 markers for Southern Cross.
