UAP - CAPITOL WINS THE 1ST UABL DAVIES INVITATIONAL TITLE

QC Sports Club, Quezon City –UAP-Capitol edged UAP-Quezon City, 65-60, to reign over the 1st season of the United Architects Basketball League-2019 Davies Invitational.

The first quarter was a blazing start for both squads as UAP–Quezon used their quickness to score on fast break plays, while UAP - Capitol made it rain from the outside. Josef Lazo hit three triples for UAP-Capitol in the first quarter alone while Paulo Cuento of UAP–Quezon City scored eight of his 18 points, all in the painted area.

On to the second quarter, UAP–Quezon City tightened up their defense and turned their jets on as they clamped the opposition down by way of a full court press to widen their advantage to double digits.

In the second half, Lazo started the big run from UAP - Capitol scoring 6 points and showed up as the “press-breaker”. Bj Lingat showed his towering presence inside the paint scoring 13 points in the third quarter, but UAP–Quezon City held the forth despite the rally from the opposing squad, as they entered the payoff quarter with the score at 50-47.



Come fourth quarter, both teams exchanged baskets and leads and it was became a chess game for both Coaches, Lester Pesigan of UAP–Capitol and Mike Nierras of UAP –Quezon City. Both teams fought toe-to-toe and went down the wire in the final two minutes of the final quarter.

Josef Lazo came up huge in the endgame for the UAP-Capitol--hitting a 3-pointer from the right wing, in the final 40 seconds of the ballgame. The huge shot proved to be the dagger as momentum shifted on their end, with UAP-Quezon City failing to answer the rest of the way.

The thrilling endgame finish capped-off UAP-Capitol’s resurgence after being down by as much as 13 points at halftime. Josef Lazo bagged the finals MVP honors after a smashing 17-point output--highlighted by a clutch trey which sealed the deal for his squad. 

Gabriel Reyes on the other hand, won both the season Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the Year as icing on the cake for his splendid play all throughout the tourney—with a championship to boast among all his achievements.
