By Frank Leo Aniscal - March 7, 2019

Improved teams, new faces, tougher competition.

These are all to be expected in the Overtime Basketball League (OTBL) Season 2 which kicked off last Saturday, March 2, 2019, at The Upper Deck Lifestyle Center in Pasig City.

The contenders in the first season added key players on their rosters to try dethrone the defending champion's, Marist, reign, while newcomers will test the competition of the inter-high school alumni league.

Taking their shots for the coveted title, Angelicum College, Aquinas School, Don Bosco - Makati, Don Bosco - Mandaluyong, La Salle Greenhills, University of Sto.Tomas, Pasig Catholic College, Jose Rizal University, Paco Catholic School, V. Mapa and Marist School have the chance to face each other in a single round robin format. Eight teams will qualify to the playoff round until only one will be crowned as the OTBL champion.

OTBL Chairman Gary Gonzales commenced the event with his opening speech, welcoming all teams and guests and giving reminders about the main purpose of the league.

"Basically, it's all about brotherhood. The teams are excited to play. At the same time, what binds us together is our common ambition to win... and also taking to consideration the way we treat each other," Chairman Gonzales answered when asked about the continuous growth of OTBL.

He also expressed his gratitude because of the partnership they have with Kings of the Court /STR8 Philippines, being the organizer of the league for the second time.

"It's the second time and we are happy working with KOTC. They're doing a great job in organizing our league, even in other leagues that we've played at before na sila ang nag-manage" Gonzales said.

Before the games were held, 10 gorgeous ladies representing their respective teams sizzled the hardcourt with their charm and wit as they fight for the Best Muse award. La Salle's Sofia Romero won the title, while Marist's Pauline Quintas and UST's Chelsea Starling became the runners-up.

For each player to get a chance to showcase their basketball skills, mandatory substitutions in every five minutes of the first and second quarters were included in the house rules. The team who failed to have at least 10 players for a certain game will give the other team a technical free throw and automatic first ball possession.

Opening Game Results
