Team J3FY still hot after escaping Elivon, grabbing solo lead in the Inter Pick-up Division standings, 90-84

Sunday afternoon was filled with good match-ups as two of the hottest teams in the division didn’t failed to entertain us with an excellent display of discipline and execution in the hard court.

 

Up by nine with 2:09 remaining in regulation, team J3FY only need to protect their edge until the buzzer - but, as one of the top tiers in the division, Elivon didn’t give up and fought back.

 

Jeg Abad started their rally with a fastbreak lay-up, then later on capped it with a trey to trimmed the deficit to a deuce, 86-84, in between those crucial baskets Jasper Castor’s drive to the basket to complete their seven to nothing run.

 

However, Mark Gubangco and Roj Cabuenas’ steady hands from the line put the icing on the cake and spoiled Elivon’s potential comeback.

 

Gubancgco finished with 20 points and seven rebounds, Cabuenas chipped in six, Bowie Bontia had 15 markers and five assists while their leading scorer Kenneth Pama paced with 11 points, but clogged the passing lanes with three steals.

 

Ryan Guangco stole the show with 19 points, while shooting 72%, grabbed seven rebounds, and a steal. He consistently providing the scoring load for J3FY, including two four point swings ended at 8:18 and 3:32 in the fourth to kept Elivon within 8-point barrier.

 

Meanwhile, Jeg Abad led all scorers with 21 points, Castor added 13 and seven boards, while their MVP front runner had a roughly ten points off the bench.

 

It was a tightly contested game after the tip as both evenly match team didn’t give any inch to pull away, and finish the opening period with Elivon leading by three, 24-21.

 

Team J3FY switched to their patented 1-2-2 in the second quarter and created some turnovers, but Elivons transition defense kept them at bay and J3FY claimed the lead going to halftime, 41-38.

 

In the third, it’s all team J3FY as Gubangco woke up in this period and scored 10 of his total points, including six straight with an array of inside baskets.

 

Elivon tried to bounced back, but they can’t stop J3FY’s momentum, and went to the final frame with the winning team leading by eight, 67-59.
