Issei Sugiyama nailed a decisive jumper and Paul Goyenechea grabbed a crucial rebound off his own miss from the charity stripe as Hoops Project stayed unbeaten in the Inter-Pick Up Division of KOTC Invitational after defeating DU Basketball, 59-55.

It all went down to the last few seconds before the Hoops Project officially claimed their second win, following their close victory against LSBC in their debut.

Despite his struggle from the three-point area, Sugiyama was still able to lead Hoops Project after finishing an impressive figures of 15 points, without missing an attempt from the two-point territory, alongside five rebounds, five assists, and four steals.

Goyenechea also entered into double figures with 11 markers, while John Yeates controlled the board after grabbing 11 rebounds.

Limited to just nine points at the end of first quarter, Hoops Project fought back in the second frame as Goyenechea's trey turned things around, 17-16. It remained a close game, but Hoops Project ended the first half with a highlight from Sugiyama and Lemuel Bondad. An inbound pass of Sugiyama to Bondad who was open for layup gave Hoops Project a two-point lead, 27-25.

DU Basketball got their rhythm in the third quarter as they converted fastbreak shots to hold the advantage, 41-35. However, Hoops Project found answers to their attacks as DU Basketball only brought a three-point edge heading to the fourth, 43-40.

Slowly, Hoops Project took the upperhand through an 8-0 run that was capped by Sugiyama's fadeaway jumper, 51-49. Mark Geli buried triples to keep DU Basketball's hopes alive, but only to fall short in the end as Hoops Project secured their second win.

DU Basketball lacked of a 'go-to-guy' type of player as neither one of them finished in double figures. JB De Belen and Marty De Mesa had eight points each.
