Southern Cross stays unbeaten, deals ePLDT their first defeat

Southern Cross displayed an unstoppable fourth quarter offense to outlast ePLDT in the battle of the undefeated, 81-70, concurrently grabbing the top-spot in Corporate Invitational.

Once again had a huge double-double, Jason Santos continued his consistent gaming by recording a stellar 12 points and 18 rebounds. Santos was a bully underneath the paint by shrugging off his defenders to claw big rebounds and managed to convert second chance buckets.

Southern Cross finally picked up their offense at the second quarter after a low-scoring affair against ePLDT at the opening canto. The black squad displayed a balance scoring output to left out ePLDT along with their defensive stops, ending the first half with an 36-28 advantage.

Meanwhile, Kim Gonzales suddenly went scorching-hot at the third quarter to propel the struggling offense of ePLDT, scored most of the buckets of his team. Monching Olazo connected a long trey to help ePLDT tied the game to 49-all, but Southern Cross managed to took care of the cushion by ending the third frame with a 57-55 slim lead.

Southern Cross proved that they were the tougher team as they completely stunned ePLDT at the final quarter behind their fiery offense and leech-like defense to dictate the tempo of the game. Lhovie Titong drained a dagger three-pointers to seal the deal for Southern Cross, extending its winning streak to undefeated 4-0 record.

Jheyar Marcelo led the scoring output for Southern Cross with his 18 points, along with 10 rebounds and five assists, while Emil Abatan and Wynald Sultan both had 14 markers each.

ePLDT’s big man Gonzales had enormous game of the season with 28 points but was not enough to carry his team on their first loss.
