Hot-shooting Smart Communications rained down a hail of three-pointers on CYO to claim a 120-81 victory Sunday night in the TBL League of 40s presented by Kings of the Court | STR8 Philippines, held at The Upper Deck Sports Center in Ortigas.

Smart relied on the hot hands of Mike De Castro as their resident sniper connected on eight of his 19 three-point attempts, finishing with game-high 32 markers.

The green shirts erected a 44-26 advantage in the second quarter, with De Castro opening the said frame with four consecutive triples. Ads Duran and Forster Bambo joined the scoring barrage in the second canto, which ended at 70-37 in favor of Smart.

CYO opened the third quarter with 11 consecutive points in a spirited rally led by Dondi Ramos and Ajun Valenzuela. Duran and Bambo would defuse that CYO run with their own 8-0 blitz, propelling Smart to a 78-48 advantage.

Smart broke the 100-point barrier at the final 7:56 with De Castro’s eighth three-pointer of the ballgame – his third of the fourth quarter, which pushed his squad to a 100-59 lead. Four more three-point bombs – two each from Bimbo Maranga and Neil Pajarillo – allowed Smart to build its biggest lead for the match at 43, 116-73, at the final 2:16.

In total, Smart knocked down 17 of their 50 three-point attempts (34%). CYO only had four stabs from the three-point line, missing all four.

Duran ended the night with a triple-double showing consisting of 25 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. Bambo, on the other hand, posted a 15-point, 15-rebound double-double performance.

Ramos paced CYO with 20 markers, while Valenzuela added 14.

Smart ended the eliminations with a 3-2 win-loss card to clinch third spot as the tournament heads to the semifinals. CYO bowed out of contention winless at 0-5.
