Remember the two teams who engaged in a triple overtime classic in the finale of the 2019 Kings of the Court Inter Pick-up tournament?

They were at it again Sunday inside The Upper Deck Lifestyle Center in Ortigas as the 2018 and 2019 finals protagonists Don Bosco Makati and LSBC slugged it out in the preliminaries of this year’s invitationals.

In the conclusion of their Week 5 encounter, two-time champions Don Bosco came away with the win – a 71-62 tally – over their league rivals.

The boys from Pasong Tamo - behind the troika of Brix Estabillo, Aaron Molo and Ian Ples - uncorked a 15-2 run that turned a five-point halftime lead to 52-34 edge over LSBC in the third period. The defensive pressure offered by the Bosconians in the said frame made life miserable for LSBC, who converted just one field goal – a jumper by Jay Magleo – inside a seven-minute stretch.

Undaunted, LSBC climbed their way back into match with 7:07 remaining in the match, cutting the deficit to seven, 60-53, courtesy of a Joseph Prodigo three-pointer. In the ensuing possession, Estabillo restored order for Don Bosco with a three-point play conversion which pushed his team’s lead back to 10. Back to back short stabs from Molo inside the final 1:41 gave Don Bosco a 71-59 breathing room, en route to their second victory out of four games in the tournament.

Estabillo led all scorers with 16 points, on top of eight assists and five rebounds. Molo and Ples registered 15 markers apiece.

Kenneth Consebido paced LSBC with 14 points, while Magleo and Jan-Jan Apostol both chipped in 10. LSBC saw their win-loss record drop to 1-2.
