JRU and V Mapa are set to face off in what will be a battle of two giant-slayers in the finals of the second season of the OverTime Basketball League.

After suffering a winless season in their first go-around, the much-rejuvenated JRU team is at the cusp of winning its first title after defeating DBTC and top-seeded Marist School in the semis.

V Mapa has other plans, however, as they will try to dash JRU’s championship hopes by stamping their class in the OTBL. They defeated sixth-seeded Angelicum College in and the second-seeded Aquinas School en route to the Finals.

By the Numbers

Identical paths to the finals: Both V Mapa and JRU went 6-3 in the regular season, taking the third and fourth seeds respectively. After eliminating their lower-seeded counterparts in the quarterfinals, they both wielded the upset ax against their higher-seeded opponents in the semis.

V Mapa outlasted Aquinas School, 89-86, while JRU eked out a squeaker against Marist School, 66-65.

Players to look out for

Who can stop the combo of Jose Deala and Genesis Friedlander? It’s no secret as to why V Mapa has been one of the league’s better teams, especially since the combo of Jose Deala and Genesis Friedlander have been killing it all season. Both are in the Top 3 in the MVP race as they’ve churned out 399.5 and 381.5 SPs respectively. JRU will surely pull out all the stops to limit the production of these two.

Who can back up Jaime Palattao’s heroic efforts? Much of JRU’s success can be owed to their improved chemistry and teamwork compared last season. However, it’s evident that they are heavily reliant on Jaime Pallatao’s efforts as he is currently seventh in the MVP race with 296.0 SP. It will be a tall order for his teammates to step up especially in the big stage, but they’ll have to do so if they plan on winning the title.
