Winning is something that has been part of Chiyoda's campaign in the Ortigas Basketball League. Their mission is once again rise to the top this 2019.

Chiyoda has always been synonymous to winning here in the OBL and they’re looking to stamp their class once more this 2019 season as they gun for their third overall title, just in time for the company’s silver anniversary.

The Japan-based engineering firm has won back-to-back titles from 2015 to 2016, but they weren’t able to sustain their run, putting themselves in unfamiliar territory.

“I remember we won titles in 2015 and 2016, three-peat or grandslam sana kami if we won noong 2017, sayang.Sa totoo lang, uhaw na uhaw na kami ulit kami sa trophy eh,” coach Sonny Reyes admitted.

For a team composed mainly of operators and engineers, juggling precious time between work and play proved to be a challenge for the team. However, Coach Sonny Reyes doesn’t see this as a problem given their squad’s strong camaraderie and familiarity with each other.

“Actually, fast-paced lang kami – we’re trying to play good basketball here. Kami dito good sportsmanship lang, kung nasaktan man kami sa laro o ano, babawiin na lang namin sa score,” said the amiable mentor.

Consistent to their company’s huge emphasis in creating sustainable solutions to their clients, not only does Chiyoda plan on racking up wins, but they also see their team as a viable avenue to develop more capable athletes in the long-run.

The team began their campaign with a 67-41 win over JFE Techno Manila, led by their reliable wingman, Irish Justo. In a team that has multiple gunners to contribute on offense, their main man accepted his role as the one who takes care of the rebounds and as rim protector during defense.

“Nakabuo [na] kami dito ng mga new players. [In fact], we have six new players na na-develop namin, and hopefully makadagdag pa kami in the future. In a way, bonding na rin namin ito kasi nakakaform ito ng new relationships na rin within,” said Reyes.

With the squad looking to win it all once more, expect Chiyoda to give their best shot this 2019 season.
