Callano, Battles star as MNL Kingpin stuns Karma Lounge PH

MNL Kingpin stood out in the battle of stalwarts by escaping with the win over Karma Lounge PH, 102-97 in Kings of the Court Interpick-up Division last Saturday at the Upper Deck - East.

Charles Callano was the man of the moment for MNL Kingpin against Karma Lounge as he led his squad behind his huge scoring output of 27 points, knocking five treys – including the clutch buckets in crunchtime. The three-point assassin of MNL Kingpin was not only reliable from the long bomb area but was also a floor general as he set up impressive plays that resulted to seven assists in total.

Both protagonists went toe-to-toe at the opening quarter but MNL Kingpin able to finish the first with a slim lead, 30-26.

However, the momentum shifted to Karma Lounge PH in the second frame as Malcolm Battles started to boost their offense, hitting back-to-back three-pointers. The black squad ended the first half with 52-54 advantage.

As the thrilling match up of both squads continue, the rhythm of the game was still on the side of Karma Lounge as they managed to extend the lead to a manageable 5-point cushion, 71-76. Andrei Aspiras went on-target from the three-point county as he knocked important treys to give Karma Lounge PH advantage.

At the fourth quarter, MNL Kingpin turned the tables on their side as they propelled a well-setup offense for Charles Callano and John Monteclaro to be free for wide open converted treys. Additionally, the white squad outscored their opponent by 10 points at the final period on a high-scoring game.

MNL Kingpin extended their advantage to eight points at the fourth behind the top of the key trey from Monteclaro. Karma Lounge PH tried to fight back late in the final period but was not enough as they faced its first defeat of the season.

Monteclaro contributed with huge 23 markers, shot seven three-pointers in total while Mon Mabayo had 20 points and seven boards for MNL Kingpin. Kurt Gojar also had a big game as he had efficient double-double 16 points and 11 rebounds, converted 8-of-11 FG.

On the other side, Aspiras’ 19 points and Battles’ 15 markers were unable to lift Karma Lounge PH and came out short at the fourth quarter. Mark Fampulme continued his efficient season performance and managed to finish with double-double 13 points and 10 boards on the first bow down of Karma Lounge PH.
