Hoyas extend streak, outguns Exile 35 Up for hat trick

Hoyas continue to set the league on fire by extending its winning streak to three games, outplayed Exile 35 Up in a 94-85 victory in the third game of Inter Pick-Up League at the Upper Deck – East.

The physicality of the game was not new for Hoyas, but rather, it was their advantage against different opponents. In the third outing, another test was faced by Hoyas but they easily handled Exile 35 Up behind its unselfish basketball plays and solid team chemistry.

Cid Castillo summoned his marksman prowess by hitting long treys, especially at the second and fourth quarters to finish with 20 points, shot a total of four three-pointers. Castillo was not only reliable from the scoring department but also a playmaker as he distributed six assists that resulted to easy buckets for his teammates.

Mac Borja contributed with 12 points, including the game-sealing fast break lay-up at the fourth period while Joven Gapas had 12 markers also, along with six boards for Hoyas.

Despite of the slow pace at the opening quarter, Hoyas controlled the game with a 20-16 advantage behind the balance offense displayed.

Hoyas’ three-point assassin went cold-blooded at the second frame as Castillo knocked two three-pointers and dished dimes to help Hoyas extend its cushion at the end of the first half, 43-36.

Different story was told at the third quarter, opposite of how both teams started the game at the tipoff. Exile 35 Up and Hoyas went on a tear at the third by converting each basket on both ends from two pointer to rainbow county buckets. However, the white squad still had the lead, 70-63.

The black team tried to storm back at the final period, but Hoyas showcased its toughness to seal the deal at the end by putting up defensive stops and clutch baskets down the end, including the made shots from Castillo and Borja.

Romeo Almerol had an enormous gaming with 22 points on 8-of-10 from the field in a losing effort for Exile 35 Up. Jayr Patricio contributed with 19 markers and five rebounds while Noah Baltazar churned out with 14, as Exile crashed down to 1-1 slate after coming out victorious on their last outing.
