Hoyas rallied in the third quarter to overwhelm DBTI after a massive 89-71 victory in the Inter-Pick Up Division of KOTC Invitational at The Upper Deck in Ortigas, Pasig.

Losing their huge lead as high as 18 points before the first half ended, Hoyas went back to playing unshakeable full-court defense in the third quarter as they were also connecting offensively, making attempts both from the two and three-point territories, that gave them a 22-point cushion heading to the fourth quarter, 68-46.

DBTI was able to come back to within 13 points with 2:21 left on the clock, 82-69, but they just added a single field goal in the remaining time as Hoyas officially closed the match with an 18-point victory.

Cid Castillo led Hoyas with 20 points to go along with three rebounds four assists and two steals. Jimwell Ocampo and Mac De Borja got 13 apiece as Ace San Juan contributed 10 markers.

Castillo's fiery start helped Hoyas get its confidence as the hot-shooting guard nailed four triples. Hoyas led by 10 at the end of first quarter, 26-16.

Answering back, DBTI made their own run in the second frame as they exploded for a 15-6 run to fall behind just by a point, 32-31. However, they failed to steal the advantage, which could have been the first time in the game, as Hoyas hung on with a slight margin at the half, 40-37.

Unfortunately for DBTI, their chance of winning the game suddenly disappeared in the third canto as Hoyas imposed its power until taking a 68-46 advantage. In the fourth quarter, Hoyas was able to potect the double digit lead until the clock expired.

Irvin Gomez finished with 24 points, Brix Estabillo made 15, and Ian Ples had 11 for DBTI, who suffered second loss in five games.
