Guhiting, Puspus are just too much for Maynilad as Meralco MServ takes blowout debut

David Guhiting posted 37 points on an excellent 7 ouf of 8 shooting from beyond the arc, while Mark Puspus was a wrecking machine inside the shaded area after finishing with 17 markers, 11 boards and four blocked shots as Meralco MServ stunned Maynilad, 80-62, in the Corporate Commercial Division of KOTC Invitational.

It was like a 'Batman and Robin' tandem against the much taller opponents, but in the end, Guhiting and Puspus helped Meralco MServ prevail.

Guhiting proved that his size was not a problem against the giants of Maynilad as he bravely attacked the basket for layups as Puspus began to impose his presence inside the paint. MServ edged Maynilad at the end of first quarter, 18-15.

Figuring out their size advantage, Maynilad was successful in asking their big men, especially Arold Basilio, to step up as they tied the game at 27. Steve Capacio knocked down two triples in that Maynilad rally.

However, Puspus and Guhiting refused to let go of the lead as they answered with a 14-3 run to end the first half ahead, 41-30.
As Maynilad tried to start an offensive run, Guhiting was able to answer their baskets with triples, knocking down three in the third quarter. MServ also shortened Maynilad's rotation as Melvin Arellano and Raf Sanchez got their fourth personal fouls.

Maynilad waved the white flag early in the fourth period as they got no solution to stop the surging force of Guhiting and Puspus, letting MServ walk away with a huge 18-point victory.
