DMK squeaked out a 2-Point win in a physical game versus Cabalen, 73-71, in the second game of the opening day at the Beverly Place Basketball Court, Mexico City.

An intense physical match-up between two teams who want to start the season right with a win, but only one team could come out on top. DMK was led by the quartet of Chan Pineda (14PTS, 8REBS), Jon Tullao (18PTS, 4REBS, 2STLS), Lanz Bautista (12PTS, 10REBS) and Martin Palo (10PTS), but Cabalen wasn’t without its scorers, with four players in double digits.

Ariel Basilio carried the Cabalen offense, notching a near double-double with 20 points and 9 rebounds while shooting 50% from the floor. Pete Dungca, Giancarlo Angeles, and Bernardo Carlos all chipped in 10 points for Cabalen.

From start to finish, the game was tight and very physical with no team willing to give an inch. Cabalen’s Basilio and DMK’s Bautista carried both their teams in the first half, but Cabalen proved to be a worthy opponent for DMK. The 3rd Quarter proved to be DMK’s chance to out gun Cabalen with Jon Tullao leading the way, but Ariel Basilio did not want to lose giving them the 56-52 lead into the final quarter.

The final quarter was the most intense, with players colliding and giving hard fouls, battling for every possession and working for every score. This is where Chan Pineda shined and put his team on his back, closing out the game with the win.
