Bruins runaway with a win over JCI Culiat, 82 – 66 in the triple-header finale of the opening day at the Beverly Place Basketball Court, Mexico City.

A familiar face shined bright for the Bruins, as KOTC Stalwart Elmer Cantos suited up for the Pampanga Tournament, notching a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds to go with 3 steals and 3 blocks. Team Captain Edmund Mendoza and Jay Reyes helped Cantos and the Bruins with 15 and 16 points, respectively.

JCI Culiat wasn’t without it’s gunners Emmanuel Reyes (31PTS, 4REBS, 6-3PT FGs) and Yves Hizon (10PTS, 4 REBS), but their depth could not match that of the Bruins. The opening quarter ended with a 2-pt Bruins lead, coming from a well-balanced attack. Hizon and Reyes kept JCI close, but a prolonged scoring drought kept the team down and allowing Edmund Mendoza to push his team up by the end of the first half.

The 3rd Quarter was almost the same for JCI, finding it hard to make baskets, while the Bruins attacked the JCI defense with ball movement and 5-0 run by Gab Sazon. The 4th quarter proved to be friendlier to the downed JCI, as Reyes made clutch three point shots and JCI locking down on defense.

The Bruins lead nearly dwindled, but they kept their calm and relied on attacking the rim and getting to the foul line. Cantos anchored the Bruins defense, and didn’t allow JCI to get into the game.
