Ardent flexes muscle to topple Gur Lavi

Ardent made full use of their size and heft advantage over Gur Lavi to eke out a 77-66 victory in their June 23 clash in the TBL League of 40s, held at The Upper Deck in Ortigas.

With Ryan Dela Rosa anchoring Ardent's interior offense, the black shirts dominated the second half of the contest against a gritty Gur Lavi side to clinch a seat in the semifinals of the Kings of the Court | STR8 Philippines–powered tournament.

The second game of the June 23 double-header started off as a see-saw battle, with both teams trading mini-runs and high-percentage shots for the first three periods. In the third frame, back-to-back baskets from Vincent Cortez pushed Ardent to a 41-36 lead at the 4:20 mark. Gur Lavi would tie things us at 47 with a booming triple from Nikk Encarnacion with 1:02 remaining in the said quarter.

Ardent established its first double-digit lead of the game in the most opportune time – 63-53 at the final 6:46 – courtesy of a three-point play by Cortez. Oscar Martinez would extend the lead to 12, 74-62, with a strong move from the post with 1:18 remaining in the contest.

Dela Rosa tallied team-high 14 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out five assists. Martinez and Emil Catalan contributed 13 markers apiece for Ardent, who finished the eliminations with a 3-2 win-loss slate.

Angelito Dela Rosa paced Gur Lavi with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Encarnacio chipped in 10. Gur Lavi ended their campaign in the league with a 1-4 card.
