Coming off an intense match in the prior week, Aquinas Exile continued to prosper as they won over their Aquinan brothers, 93-77, against the Legends on Saturday night, in the Kings of the Court Inter Pick- Up League eliminations held at The Upper Deck Lifestyle Center.

In a game highlighted by momentum shifts in 40 minutes of play, it was Aquinas Exile, who came up with huge surges that gave them their fourth win in five games.

The Legends led by Jobert Castro, made quite an impressive start in the first period. But as the eventual trends of the game began, Aquinas Exile banked on their stifling defensive prowess- holding the Legends scoreless in the last five minutes of the first quarter, and lead 25-12.

Despite fielding a small lineup, Aquinas Exile executed better, coming off a brilliant start to the ballgame.

The Legends fought tooth and nail come second period and forced an equal tally of 21 second quarter points, which still had them trailing by double-figures at halftime, 46-33. Come third quarter, the fight back would continue for the Ajun Valenzuela-mentored squad, as LA Agustin and Ryan Silva upped the energy to catapult their production to 24 huge points in the third. The surge would trim the gap down to a single digit from a deficit which stood as a high as 13 in the first half.

With a 63-57 count entering the final period of play, and the Legends carrying great momentum, Aquinas Exile proved to be ready in the final ten minutes as they seemed unfazed by the opposing team’s outburst in two of the three quarters. The Joey Valencia-owned ball club would unleash their lethal form by way of their old reliable forces in Jasper Casitas and previous game’s player of the game selection, Mar Reyes. The two gunners would catalyze the payoff period surge, where they unloaded 30 big points and concurrently getting crucial stops on the defensive end to pull away in the final minutes and secure the victory.

Japer Casitas led the team with 23 points, six rebounds, and three assists, JayR Patricio added 16 points and six rebounds, while Mar Reyes paced the supporting cast with 15 markers on top of six rebounds and six assists. Gelo Colmenares contributed 10 points on 71% shooting from the field while Ellard Cortez logged 10 markers off of 4/5 makes from the field.

Valiant efforts from Legends’ end led by Jobert Castro’s 18 points and four boards, Eric Quiroga and Ryan Silva’s 13 markers each, and Glen Avergonzaldo’s 12 points, rounds out the notable performances in the competitive yet sportsmanship-filled contest.
