Aftershock barricades Ronac Saturdays' offense

After giving up 21 points in the first period, Aftershock limited Ronac Saturdays to just 23 in the next three quarters en route to a 70-48 victory that capped off the June 2 triple-header of the Kings of the Court | STR8 Philippines Inter Pick-up Invitationals held at The Upper Deck in Ortigas.

During the quarter break, Coach Prince encouraged his guys to rotate properly on defense, build a wall inside and contest every shot as much as possible.

Lifted by their mentor’s words, the winning team limited Ronac Saturdays to two consecutive periods with less than ten points, three in the second, and eight in the third.

Together with strategic defense, they produced live ball turnovers that turned into fastbreak points, and never looked back after grabbing their largest margin at 21 in the third, 54-33.

Ed Dela Torre showcased for 20 markers and three assist, eventually grabbing the the Player of the game honors.

His teammates provided some help as 8 of them scored at least five points, Jose Gorriceta had 10 and eight rebounds, Eduard Aguilar had seven, Vincent DeGuzman had six, and Luigi Gorriceta, Alvin Fernandez, Daryl Deang and Cris Basalo all had five points.

On the other hand, Johann Param carried Ronac’s offense in the first period, but he was contained after a fiery 1st quarter as Aftershock never gave him an inch to shoot comfortably.

He finished with 16 points and grabbed 7 boards, while Michael Miyauchi added eight and seven.

Ronac Saturdays played a well oiled offense after the tip, hitting treys, going to the post and running for easy points, and ended the quarter with a deadlock, 21-21.

However, after a strong start, Ronac Saturdays offense started to get cold and the only manage to hit a triple at 1:44 mark in the second period courtesy of Miyauchi, then entered the second half down by 11, 36-25.

Meanwhile, Aftershock exploited that opportunity and continue to do what they do best - play hard wall defense that Ronac Saturdays cannot overcome.
