The Architects Basketball Union (ABU) League returned into action three weeks after its successful conference of the 1st Boysen Cup.

This time, ABU League banners the 2019 Corporate Cup - North vs. South.

Consisting of eight teams, KNAUF, LIXIL, EMERALD, and MOLDEX drew first blood in the opening day against their respective opponents, namely, BOYSEN, SPURWAY, E3-JPSM, and ARROWBOND at the Central Colleges of the Philippines (CCP) Gymnasium in Sta. Mesa, Manila.

As bases of grouping the players to the North and South Division teams, ABU League distinguished the area of the companies joining the competition, and also the birth places of the players' roots.

ABU President Don Ferrer expected the competition to be tougher as the sponsors and other construction-related companies were able to form their own team composed of talented and passionate individuals.

“We are happy with the outcome of the 1st Boysen Cup, where Titan Elastomeric emerged as the champion in a hard-fought finals. We received a lot of positive feedbacks, including the entry of Kings of the Court / STR8, that’s why we pursue to have this 2019 Corporate Cup as soon as possible,” said Ferrer about the success of their previous conference.

Lester Ong was a solid force for MOLDEX as he finished with a double-double performance of 29 points and 15 rebounds as they defeated ARROWBOND, 68-61.

The combination of Paolo Cuento (23 points and 10 rebounds), Kenneth Trinidad (17 points), and Ilvic Diaz (14 points) caused too much destruction to E3-JPSM after giving EMERALD a 73-62 debut win.

First Boysen Cup MVP and Finals MVP, BJ Chiu, carried his phenomenal game into the second conference as he tallied 36 markers including 10 three-pointers, along with eight boards as he propelled LIXIL over SPURWAY, 69-67.

Lastly, KNAUF's Dunhill Villaruel, Karl Dioneda and Paolo Olan gave BOYSEN a bad welcome after taking a 74-69 victory.

“Here in the Corporate Cup, the league partners and sponsors were given the chance to participate, like BOYSEN which is ABU’s major sponsor. Here, there is variation of players. Sponsors send some of their players to join the competition. May magagaling talagang maglaro, so we expect na magiging maganda ang competition dito sa Corporate Cup,” Ferrer added.

For the 2019 Corporate Cup, the tournament format will be a double round robin each in the North and South divisions, plus a crossover single round robin to complete the eliminations. Fourth ranked team in each division will be eliminated. Then, ranked 1 team will advance to the division finals and will wait to the winner between the ranked 2 and ranked 3 teams. Division champions of the North and South will be competing in the Corporate Cup Finals.
