8 Teams banner the first IPPCA Inter-Basketball Tournament 2019 - Chairman's Cup

The excitement in playing basketball will never part from anyone, more so, the hoop junkie nation that we are. It just lives inside each and every Filipino, even to the ones who rarely touch a basketball in the seven-day span of each week.

The weekend warriors of the Independent Philippine Petroleum Companies Association (IPPCA), opened their very first inter-basketball tournament, powered by Kings of the Court|STR8, last February 23, 2019 at The Upper Deck Lifestyle Center in Ortigas, Pasig City.

For the inaugural season, TOIC, Petro Gazz, Filoil, Unioil, Metro Oil, SeaOil, Eastern Petroleum, and Clean Fuel will banner the eight (8) team- tournament, hailing from the members of the prestigious group of independent oil companies in the country, with the main mission of promoting the unity through basketball.

League commissioner, Mr. Saymour Go (Clean Fuel) led the short opening program, with the opening remarks and the oath of sportsmanship for all the teams. IPPCA Chairman, Dr. Fernando L. Martinez, spoke to all the teams about the mission of the league and the importance of sportsmanship, along with the enjoyment of playing alongside their fellow basketball brothers.

Before tip-off, the parade of dazzling, gorgeous muses took place on the hardcourt, as they highlight the afternoon with their wit, competitive spirit, and all-out support for their respective teams. Ms. Bea Dajao from Seaoil, won the best muse award.

The entire TOIC roster rejoice, after a splendid start to the second half of play against UniOil.  

Opening tip: TOIC kicked off the action on the court with a resounding win over UniOil in the first game of a Saturday afternoon double-header, 108-37 with ace combo-guard Mark Egie Asuncion, leading the way for the blue shirts. He finished with 23 points, six rebounds, seven assists, and two steals. Kim Gregorio was on target, with 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting, Vonreo Cachola finished with a double-double performance of 18 points and 10 boards, while Jeffrey Gomez rounded out the key contributors with double-figures, with his 11 markers on top of five boards.

Unifying and strengthening the relationships between the participating teams, the league aims to build a strong foundation with this kick-start, and hopefully create two conferences every year, moving forward. The tourney will have the classic flavor in their tournament format, where all teams will go through a single round-robin eliminations, and will have the top four teams battle in the knockout semis. Finals protagonists will face off in a winner-take-all finale to determine the champion of the Chairman's Cup. The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas(SBP)-sanctioned tournament, in cooperation with Kings of the Court|STR8 will last for four months (February- May 2019).

Singson, Executive Director, Mr. Paul Anthony Isla, and League Commissioner, Mr. Saymour Go (Clean Fuel), with league Organizer, president and founder of Kings of the Court|STR8, Mr. Cholo Legisma.

The newest Wilson XG-model with the cross-grip technology, is the official game ball of the IPPCA 2019.
